They poops my breakfast = food producers
I rub their lovely silky feather on my face, I give them name.
When they don't lay egg, I tell them..rent is due and in arrears, they don't bother with what I tell them at all.
I pick up their poops a few times a day, change their bedding every day, feed them, ensure that they have good food, clean water, and treats to eat.
Instead of shopping for shoes, new clothes, I look for chicken bedding material, need feed, standing hours at the feed store looking..
Live stock?
Pets?
Am I slave to these feathery highness You decide

Have been keeping chickens for about 25 years. They are my pets. :love I don't eat my chickens, but do eat the eggs. They all live long lives naturally into their Geriatric years. Eventually they stop laying eggs. Not a problem for me. They still provide me Joy. My oldest living chicken pulled 13 years. A few lived to be 11. Others averaged 8 to 10. Had some breeds, (production hens) that only live for 4 to 5 max.
Currently I have 5 Bantams. Only 2 of them still produce eggs.
