Question of the Day - Tuesday, January 9th, 2024

I've played piano since I was 4, and I just got a cello and two violins for Christmas (for the whole family to share and learn together). Not the biggest fan of actually playing the violin (I do love the sound), but I love the cello and I'm excited to learn to play it!
Violin is difficult starting out, but the learning curve is steep. If you're disciplined, you'll be surprised how good you can get quickly.

We are learning from YouTube videos, not a personal teacher. I just don’t care for the way you hold a violin, I don’t like having it right by my face, if you know what I mean. I like the way a cello is between your legs. I am still learning the violin, but not as dedicated as I am the cello :)

Look at how the "old time" players used to hold them. Many held it low against their chest. Violin playing is one of those "purist" things. There is only one way to do everything, break out of line and you're a heretic. Like me, for example, my bow has black hair on it currently. I also own a set of silk strings.
