Wearing thongs (footwear in Australia folks) will make your feet get wider. I am still trying to get it through my mothers head that my wide feet were inherited from her. (She does not wear thongs so you would think she would know this.)

Two that my grandmother told us were that when the wind blew the leaves upside down it was going to rain, also said the same if the cows were lying down in the pasture during the day. Good ol' Dad, always the pragmatist, on a drive posed the question of the leaves and we kids chimed it was going to rain. Dad, "the wind is blowing", as far as the cows in the pasture, we were wrong again. Dad, "they're tired".
