Question of the Day - Tuesday, June 3rd, 2025

In elementary school, Mrs. Beuge (spelling? pronounced "Big-ee"), my second grade teacher, was wonderful. Close second was Mr. Festerling, 5th grade.

In high school, Mr. Richardson was one of the best teachers I ever had. I did get a chance to tell him a few years ago.

Uncommon name so won't post it.
My brother was a year ahead of me in school. His 1st grade teacher then became mine.
I started kindergarten when I was 4 and more then hated being there. Despised it, fought it, caused so much trouble I spent much of that year in the back of the room with my desk in a refrigerator box. The back was open but not the front or sides.
It was for punishment but I rather enjoyed the solitude. I stabbed pencil holes in it so I could see out but didn't have to deal with others.
At the end of the year they were going to hold me back and make me take kindergarten over.
My brother's teacher thought I was misunderstood not stupid or a problem child. She said give me a week in her class and then reevaluate me.
I'm not sure what really happened but I stayed in 1st grade in her class, did great and didn't hate school so much.
She saw something others didn't and gave me a chance.
I was always a good kid and got good grades after that. I don't even know why since I was so young but she had to have been a really special teacher and I probably would of never made it though school if she hadn't been there for me.

Or maybe it was my 5th grade teacher.
In 5th grade I had my first real crush. Umm Lisa, she had a crush on me too. Don't know how it was allowed but the teacher used to let the two of us skip recess and stay in the classroom alone unsupervised.
Usually we had math races on the chalkboard. Oh the times we had.

My 6th grade teacher. He's a PHD in medieval history and also ran the school's College bowl team and newspaper. (College Bowl was like team trivia about history and current events). He is a science nut as well, and was adept at getting us into learning and asking questions. I can draw a line pointing back to him about how I see the world and how I approach it. He's my folks' age, and often run into him in town when I go down to see my folks.
