I've rappelled in them, I've hiked in them, I walk the open desert in them, I've walked Kilauea Iki in them. Very few places I won't wear a good pair of sandals. They need a good sole though to keep the cholla spines out of your feet.

I had a woman show up here wearing flip flops in March. She was here to get free trees and shrubs.

I had to give her a bandaid to put on her bleeding foot before she left.

See, flip flops are crap. I won't wear those unless it's on a beach and I didn't have my sandals. No real protection at all.

Gotta know how to walk. It's like cars. Millions of people are licensed to operate motor vehicles, but the percentage who actually know how to drive them is infinitesimal in comparison.
