Just curious how this works ? When looking at the bid history of my egg auction, the bids are out of sequence time/date wise. Also appears bidders are bidding up their own high bids. Some bids have vanished. Not complaining, just wondering.

That is how proxy bidding works, say I decide to bid $10 on something that has the bid showing $6 by JMJ yesterday.

I bid $10 and JMJ who has th bid showing of $6 actually bid $12 (2 days ago) but the amount of bids from everybody that bid was only 5.75, so when JMJ bid $12 it only jumped the bid to $6 (or the next increment allowed to be bid). It does this automatically for you.

When I bid $10 today JMJ's bid will show at $10.25. The history will show my bid at $10 today but JMJ's bid of $10.25 at 2 days ago when the $12 bid was actually placed.

This way I can put in the bid of what I really want to spend but it will only increase when someone else bids the same or more. This is proxy bidding because it bids for you when you are not there.

Does that help you????

Yes, when a bidder puts in a bid it can be above the actual bid needed to beat the previous bidder.

For example, I bid $5. The next bid should be $5.25. Instead of bidding that amount, you put in $10. Each time somebody else bids against you, your bid automatically beats them up to $10.

If you can PM me links to specific examples, I can look into it further.

Thanks!

Ok, What is happening with this auction that you are concerned about?

It seems fine.

You have person x putting in $xx amount as their max bid. They are the current high bidder.

Person y comes and puts in a bid that isd lower than person x's high bid, so the system automatically bumps person x's bid to outbid person y. Person y bids again with the same result and keeps doing it, upping his max until he beats person X.

I see that happened several times.

Not so concerned as confused. Was not aware of the proxy bidding option.

Thanks
