hopefully someone can help me. I was told that it is hard to get fertilized eggs from a cochin breeding because of their fluffy butts and I should trim feathers. Anyone that has bred cochins or hatched eggs did you have to trim their feathers around their vents? I have some eggs in my incubator and now worried they are all duds. I thought one I cracked and checked looked fertilized and some said they thought it was one said not fertilized.

I have bred cochins and I have had really good fertility without having to trim butt fluff.... but trimming does definitely help if you aren't getting very good fertility.
What I have found is if they get too hot in summer the fertility drops right off because they can't be bothered mating as much. I found the hot weather worse than the overly fluffy butts....

Someone else may be able to help more than me tho

Thank you. It is still chilly here right now. Anywhere from 30-70. Lol.

Here is a pic of an egg laid yesterday, not sure if it matters but it was laid a couple hours before opening it and checking.

My roo seems to be a gentleman the times I see him when peeking in on the camera or I am out there. He will dance for the ladies and if they walk away he leaves them. I have only seen him with the blue hen once but I don't watch all the time so sure I missed some

My Cochins Bantams had good fertility in the first year. About 60 to 70 percent. This year one hen had 100 percent fertility another had about 10 percent and another had 0. Maybe butt fluff is what caused that?
