Sounds to me like the breeder has an assorted pen of colors. Golden is dominant over most colors, however if that breeder also has browns in the same pen (roos and hens for example) it's very easy for you to get browns and even A & ms in the hatch...though the predominant colors to hatch will be golden.
IF you breed a golden to a brown you will get about 75% goldens 25% browns
If you breed golden to golden it should give you only golden
brown x brown both carrying A &M will give you a small percentage of A & M
golden to golden carrying A & M i assume could do the same
Many breeders say they have only this or that color for sale and you wouldnt believe how many times customers hatch the eggs and get more than what they ordered.....i personally like getting suprises but others who are expecting something else don't and i completely understand that. THe way genetics work though and with birds not being pedigreed it's sometimes hard to avoid...
like i had a pen of only rosetta coturnix.... the resulting offspring were goldens! LOL!
