I dunno. During spring, her mess of ducks pair off and the drakes guard their hens while they're on their nests. Not saying all call ducks behave this way, just that the ones I've been around, including my own.

I know this happens, so I guess I have been lucky so far.Personally, I can't stand having more than one standard drake regardless of how many hens I have. They gang rape the hens, and I have even had one of my hens killed by them.

Some of my Muscovies do the same.I dunno. During spring, her mess of ducks pair off and the drakes guard their hens while they're on their nests. Not saying all call ducks behave this way, just that the ones I've been around, including my own.
I sure hope you have better luck than I. It's not breed specific, either. Magpies, Cayugas, Welshies, Runners, Mixes... doesn't seem to matter. It always goes south eventually. I try to find them homes, and if I can't, they get eaten. I have three spare drakes from Holderread right now, and I've only got a home for one. It's a pity, but they are going in the freezer tomorrow.I know this happens, so I guess I have been lucky so far.![]()
Maybe it's because mine are all getting older. Youngest is probably 3 years old now, oldest close to 8. Nor sure, but I think I have 5 or more drakes living harmoniously with about 15 hens.I sure hope you have better luck than I. It's not breed specific, either. I've never had Muscovies, but folks sure do sing their praises! Is it shallow of me to think that their fleshy faces are ugly? Some of my Muscovies do the same.

Were they all raised together?Maybe it's because mine are all getting older. Youngest is probably 3 years old now, oldest close to 8. Nor sure, but I think I have 5 or more drakes living harmoniously with about 15 hens.
They are kind of ugly until you own one, then they grow on you.I've never had Muscovies, but folks sure do sing their praises! Is it shallow me to think that their fleshy faces are ugly?![]()
