So I have three lovely silkie eggs that hatched. Only problem is for awhile the silkies were in with my standard rooster which is a standard phoenix. Now I've got my silkies in their own pen and our male silkie is very very good at his job. My question though is out of the three eggs two had 5 toes and 1 had four takes....the four toes was the second egg to hatch with the 5 toes hatching one before and one after. They all have extermly black skin, all black feathers (the Silkies are both black as well), they are also softer then any of our other chicks. Is it possible that any of these three chicks are pure? Is it to early to tell? They are less then a week old. None of them have any looks of the phoenix.
Our standards that we hatched, all have light colored (while the standard hens are RIR, SLW, and BR) feathers.
How can I tell which color gene is going to be the top gene? I have a white silkie hen that should start laying soon, if she mates with my black roo, how do I know which color will come out?
Thanks
