Hello.. I am new here.. I have a 4 to 5 year old peacock who we recently had got him two females. Unfortunately when they nested one hen got attacked.

Anyways the second hen nested and layed about 6 eggs. We live on a ranch and they get to roam free.. I watched her closely and when hatched I took the babies to raise. Well out of 6 eggs 4 hatched and 2 survived.. they are now 2 months old and my Hen has disappeared again. I seen her a week ago but now nothing.. no feathers like something got her.

My question is will they renest. Could it be a possibility that she layed more eggs.

Where do you live? It seems like it's pretty late in the breeding season for her to be making another nest.

Have you tried to find your missing girl? If you post a notice on craigslist, put up flyers, and make calls to animal control, humane society, pet stores, feed stores, vets, etc., you may discover that she has just wandered too far to find her way home. Someone may have seen her out there!

Good luck!

I live in California. We live on a ranch. Not many people around. Yes we have looked all over for her. She had no reason to leave. The male is still here. She normally eats with my chickens. Here one day and was gone the next. Very sad. I was afraid that it may be to late. But hopeful she might of because I took her babies.
We knew the other hen got attacked because we found feathers but this one just went missing.

I hope she's ok!

We are in California, too (Southern), and our last peahen hatched her chicks about a week ago.
I've never seen them nest later than this, but who knows?

This has been kind of an odd season, many of my hens started laying later than normal and just last week 2 of them who had stopped laying started again, I've got 8 eggs sitting here from them. So I would say that it is possible. One year my Cameo BS hen had her nest of eggs smashed up by something(probably the male) and she laid a late clutch of eggs that hatched in Sept.

Well I can only hope. I'll just keep track of the calendar and Keep looking for her. The only thing that makes since since there are no signs of her being attacked on the property.

Wanted to thank you guys. I seen her this morning headed to water. Now I'll watch her to see where she is nested. But at least I know she is ok
