Question on Purina Layena Crumbles, it's all powder!

Might be able to get some coupons from purina. I would buy from another feed store if they atleast did not give something to ensure your business. I would add water to the dust. I usually get some dust at the bottom if the bag.If it were a lot I would be super annoyed, because that feed isn't cheap.

Thanks everyone here for the posts----and Double T for starting the thread.

I have heard that some people add garlic and cayenne pepper to chicken feed. (for health as well as taste from what I under stand). Also I have heard that too much garlic or onion will result in garlic or onion flavored eggs.

The idea about adding water to the powder to form a new crumble-- fabulous.

I sometimes put a shake of garlic powder or/and cayenne in table scraps for the chickens like rice, or scrambled eggs---and they eat it.

Does anyone do this for chicken health -- garlic? Cayenne pepper? both? If yes, How much do you add?

Now that I have read this, I think that when I find that bag powder, I will reconstitute with water and spice it up for the chickens.

Double T-- how interesting that your chickens are pickey eaters. - I think mine like crumbles better than pellets too, now that I think of it.

Agreed that the feed store doesn't deserve your buisness, and you should vote with your feet and leave them behind! Hopefully you can arrange shopping so that you purchase from a different source.

I experienced that a few years ago. I brought the feed back to the feed store and explained the problem to them. They contacted Purina and they (the feed store) was informed that the machine that Purina was using to make the crumble was not operating properly. The feed store gave me a full refund and sent all of the Purina feed back. You may want to find another feed store who is more "customer friendly". I hope that you are able to mix and feed the power feed to your chicks.

Mix it into some yogurt and freeze it for some nice cooling summer treats. Cut up some watermelon and roll it in it. There are countless things to do with it.

thanks, I contacted purina last night, we'll see if they get back to me. This store is the only one for about 60 miles, lol we are rural, and they just took it over, I LOVED the last owners, these I'm not crazy about at all. We are BIG business people with them honestly. I get my little horse feed, and our dog food from them, as well as the chicken feed, and then the ranch gets ALL of their horse feed from them, and that is like a ton a month per camp x 3 camps. So yeah a big bill, but they just don't seem to be honoring their stuff. I get that the hatcheries will have a few roos in with the pullets, but it's annoying when the middle man won't honor it, to me anyways. And maybe more of an annoyance cause I know that the previous owners woudl of said, Oh let me give some $ back cause he is one or bring him in, and we'll exchange him. I've got a roo that I have no where to go with, and he's gonna ahve to go somewhere, lol.

The Feed that is Powder and supposed to be crumbles is the Purina Layena Crumbles, the blue bag, I have tried and can get the pellets, but they only ate them good for about two weeks then slacked off and decided they didn't like 'em (while acting like they were starving for any feed that wasn't pellets that I brought into the coop). I haven't had any issue with the Chick starter in the red bag. But I'm thinking I may just try the Hi Pro brand. Hubs said this am he'd choose Hi Pro over Purina in relation to horse feeds if he could, so I may try it and see if we have any other luck, or just hold out till we get to another town and another feed store and see if their is any better.
