My khaki cambell likes to go out to this swamp in back of my house and hangs with the wild ducks. When I was baking and I cracked open 2 of her eggs and there was a little blood in each of them!Do you think one of the wild mallards mated with her?And if so could I incubate them or put them under a broody hen and they will hatch?

Was it just a little vessel of blood in the middle? This happens to my chicken and duck eggs sometimes and we don't have a rooster to fertilize the chicken eggs. Were the eggs that you cracked freshly laid? With our eggs there is just that blood vessel because they are very fresh. They are still edible

I can't seem to find a picture of what I am talking about..

You could try incubating her eggs to see if they are fertile

I am sure at least a few are?

Hope this helps

Blood spots have nothing to do with fertility, you have to look for the bulls-eye. You can always try incubating them though, they very well could be fertile. Khaki/Mallard crosses are adorable, by the way.

lol thx guys but its just that ive seen them on several of her eggs now so I dont know what to think.

I used to have a chicken that laid eggs with blood in them. It wasn't just a little blood either, it was an entire blood clot inside every single one of her eggs. And her eggs weren't fertile either. I think DuckFanatic is right, blood in an egg is just an exploded blood vessel.

You could always try to incubate her eggs, you never know if she could be getting frisky with the wild males.

I agree that vessel doesn't have anything to do with fertility. And what could it hurt to try and hatch them? Have fun!

I just got exited becouse she has never laid any other eggs before that had blood in them.
