What does it mean, when it says that they are 'straight run only' when you are ordering chicks? Is it a crap shoot as to what sex's you get? I love the looks of the palm turkeys, but would like only one tom, and about 6 hens.

Getting just one male and six females when ordering straight run is worse odds than drawing to an inside straight. If you pull that off, you should head straight to Vegas!!

They reach into the brooder and whatever they pull out is what you get. Over large numbers it will be about 50/ 50 male female, but the odds don't work that reliably on small numbers.

You could probably buy juveniles to get what you want if you can't find a place that sells sexed poults.

Or just buy 12-18 straight run poults, keep the ones you want and sell the rest. There is no problem selling Tom turkeys. It's nothing like trying to re-home extra roosters.
