Question with roosting bars and nesting boxes?

I'm planing a chicken coop out but I've run into the same problem that I ran into every time I try to do this. How far does the roost need to be from the wall, how high does it have to be and how much head room should chickens have on the roost? Also how big should the nesting boxes be how high should they be and how far from the floor should the nesting boxes be? Thanks!

It depends the size off the coop and type of the chicken are you going to raise. The heavy type chicken can't fly up as high so some type of step require. Most folk like to keep the wall clean so 14"-24" will do. I like community laying box with divider 14" x 30" for my 10 hens. If you are going to raise breed that broody a lot to hatch your own chick, more nest box is a must. To keep the egg clean, you may want to build a roll out nest box. Good Luck!

First question is......... HOW LARGE IS YOUR COOP GOING TO BE???
All things will be relative to overall size. Now here are some guideline answers to your questions.
Roost ......... 12 inches away from wall is sufficient. Height. ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, 3 to 4 feet off the floor is good. Headroom...... this is where it gets technical. All depending on total height of your coop. Ventilation needs to be at top of coop. It needs to be such that there is plenty of ventilation, but no direct drafts blowing on chickens.
Nesting boxes are best if somewhere about 12 inches off the floor. Reason for elevation, is to keep chickens from scratching litter into nesting boxes. Size may be 12 x 12 x 12 to 16 x 16 x 16.. All depending on size of your coop. You only need about 1 nest per 4 or 5 chickens. They will usually share a few and not use some of the rest. If you intend to keep 10 chickens, 3 nests will do.
