Is it a nessecitey to turn/tilt eggs while incubating? Is it possible for them to hatch if you didn't turn them?

I'll be following this thread. I'm curious myself. I'd also like to understand how a sitting hen raises or lowers humidity and temp lol.
Come Twist...you should know she pushes those two buttons on her belly either up or down.
Read that thread above.

Yes it is necessary. I don't know the exact science behind it but I heard/have been told that the chick will "stick" to the inside of the egg if you don't.

I agree here, turning is necessary for the embryo to develop correctly. Turning encourages limbs and body parts to develop correctly and to get the chick in the correct position in the egg for hatch time. It also keeps the nutrients moving in the albumen (egg white) so the embryo can get the full benefit of these nutrients. It also stops the embryo sticking to the inside of the egg. If it sticks it may develop in the wrong position and not be able to hatch successfully.

That's not to say though that if you didn't turn they would not hatch but turning will give them the best chance of hatching strong and healthy chicks.

Great post by Y/coop.

I recall reading a post a few days ago that the turning mechanism on an incubator was not turned on by a member and the hatch rate, if I recall correctly, was 40%
