Poop boards with sand under roost bars in both sides of my coop (big's and little's.) I have 12 chickens, takes me about 5mins every morning to scoop poo into a bucket, just like kitty litter box. I dump bucket into compost or directly in my garden every 2 weeks. Easy peasey! Clean painted plywood floor on one side, clean old tongue and groove wood floor on other side....

I highly recommend it. It's truly been a GAME CHANGER for me. In fact it's a bit over the top how happy I am about poop boards but I've been at this for a very long time and to NOT dread chicken chores is simply wonderful.

Hey I am happy to get any and all pointers in what will help make clean up and everything easier. Specially being a newbie at this. I an getting alot of good advice off this forum.

Absolutely! Glad you joined. This place has the very best info, always has! I've followed a few local FaceBook groups and they're very lame comparatively.

I agree with you. Here's another question for you. Would pea gravel work in a poop box?

I don't think so because the point of sand is scooping poo out of sand. Pee gravel would be to big to fall through a sand rake. Typically people use plain ole kitty litter rakes... I use sand directly from my property. I understand not everyone has sandy soil but a 50lb. bag of sand goes a long way, you don't have to change it out pretty much ever, like you do other bedding. I toss a handful of Sweet PDZ in the sand every few days.

You know you're going to get a lot of different opinions. You could do the whole "cast a vote thing" or just see what majority says. I've tried wood floor and bare dirt. I did wood and got really sick of collecting poo in plastic bins under roost. It was gross and they managed to hit the walls alot. My pretty wood floor that I worked so hard on was over run with baby chicken poo, etc. So then I added to my coop, kicked them off my floor and used bare ground with sand under roosts for "deep whatever it's called." Well that's even grosser and leaving poo for a long time just to me is about to lazy for daily cleanup. SO NOW I have poop boards filled with sand under roosts and I installed a nice wood floor that is always clean. I'm finally happy with this config!

Would love to see a few pics of what you are describing. I am thinking of what to put on our newly built sub flooring. Our babies are a week old and we are converting a small mobile home out back into the chicken house.
i aw a video where they put in sand and said to change it out once a year. Anyone done that and what were your results?
I dot want anything lick, because I see my babies slip when I change their brood flooring just in the few minutes before I can get new paper towels down. So, long term, I want a good material, and hope not to use anything I have to purchase regularly, if possible.
