Im on day 22 of hatching (or not) my first eggs... I have a feeling they are dead b/c of temp fluctuations during the process. If I tried to gently candle them tonight would I definitely kill them??? Or should I just be patient and wait !!! (not one of my strong points)

I would not candle till day 25 and I also would not open the bator!

I would say that if you have not heard a peep by this time, then there is nothing that will ever hatch.
The good thing is that you have identified the problem of temperature variation. It takes patience to get the temperature set right. Even small adjustments take a long time to show a stable result.

Do they generally only hatch during the day? Or can they hatch overnight?

We have had them hatch at all times of the day, many sleepless nights as well!

If they are alive, usually you hear them or you see rocking.
