can anyone tell me about how long it takes for a chick to break out of its shell once you see the 1st signs of breaking out?

It often can take up to 24 hours or more. Check for membrane shrinkage if you can? What else is going on? how long has it been trying to hatch? Is it making chirping sounds?

lots of cherping ...2 have picked through a littel and got lots of movement in the rest..........how would i check for membrane scrinkage
