I was told all my chicks were leghorns when I picked them up, also they would all be hens too..... well I guess not. I have a roo and his legs are pale and his ears are red, the ladies have yellow legs and ears and I'm pretty sure laying hens*fingers crossed* anyways any ideas or help is appreciated, thanks in advance :)

I agree the girls are hatchery grade White Leghorns.

The red combed bird is definitely a rooster...okay...maybe my bespeckled eyes are getting hazy...but does anyone else see a crest on that bird? And his stance in the 2nd photo has a meat bird appearance, but not heavy enough to be a full Cross X. And that comb is not a single type in that photo...it could be just the photo angle on a Leghorn flop starting.

My first thought was Cross X meat bird in the Leghorn pen...but it may be some odd hybrid of something that was a major oops at the hatchery.

It could just be odd photo angles and nothing more than hatchery Leghorn rooster...but if that isn't a single comb, and he has super thighs, and he really does have a bit of crest...I think he is a Cornish Cross mix.

he does have a crest, a lil tiny one hard to get in a photo and his comb is split in two, I'll try to get better pics.

While hatchery birds can vary from SOP, that guy has varied so far off he has got to be a hybrid oops.

There are rosecomb Leghorns...but I don't think most hatcheries carry those...but a crossing of rose comb with single comb and crest might give you the chances of some funky comb...I don't know the genetics well enough to say on that.

LOL, it looks like someone may have jumped the fence with that rooster doesn't it?)

Yes indeed...seriously...it almost looks like a Crevecoeur Cornish Cross mix to me...crest with split comb, meat bird legs and dominant white....or maybe a Crested Legbar vs. Cornish Cross (but that would give us single comb)....

Hmmmm...something interesting happened at the hatchery that day for that to end up in the Leghorn shipment.
