I have a few questions about Blackhead in poultry.

1. I read that this disease does not affect ducks, geese, or pheasants, does this mean that they can not get the disease or does it mean that they can get it but it will not cause harm to them? So really my question is can a duck get blackhead and pass it to turkeys or peafowl like a chicken can?

2. How do birds get blackhead? I know that it is carried by worms and when the bird eats an infected worm it gets blackhead, I also know it is passed through the poop of infected birds and my question is targeted at the poop one. Do birds have to eat infected poop or just like step in it or something else?

3. If my chickens have blackhead how long would it take to spread to and kill my turkeys? I am asking this question because I want to get turkeys and peafowl soon but I am unsure if my chickens are infected with blackhead so I started by buying just 3 turkey poults and I have had them for almost a week now and the seem fine.

If your chickens had blackhead, not only could they die, but if they interacted a lot with the turkeys, the turkeys could get it and die in a few days. Also, turkeys show signs of blackhead and for the most part, so do chickens. So, you can just keep an eye on them.

3 years late but thanks lol. No one here ever ended up getting black head thankfully. I have a flock of turkeys, peafowl, and guinea fowl now.
