I have six two day old chicks, I’m using the eco glow but they chirp non stop until I put the heat lamp on top of the brooder. Is it just to cold for them without the lamp?

We started using it with our very first chicks last week. We have it on the shortest setting. One of our birds did seem to be a little confused, and stood outside cheeping like mad - we took her over and sorta gently shoved her under it a second time, and she seemed to get it. Ever since then, they've gone in and out as they wish, and it seems to be going well, they sleep there.

Also, I saw some advice that I followed, and had @Purple Rose cover it with a sheet of Press and Seal - because they do get up on top of it sometimes, and of course they then poop on it. We have taken the original press and seal off and recovered it, during one of the times we were changing bedding. Glad I saw that advice.

When I start chicks with an ecoglow, I usually take off one side of the ecoglow and put it back on as low as possible. That way, the chicks can cuddle up to the heat on the low side (they should be able to touch it), or move to the higher side if they don't want to be as warm.
