My chickens are 7 weeks old an are out in there coop with a run attached to it my question is at night when they all go in the coop should I close the door to the run or leave it open at night

It depends on how confident you are that the run is truly predator-proof. Although most predators can be active day or night, many are a lot more likely to be active at night, plus people are not normally active outside to scare them away. They have a lot more undisturbed time to get to your chickens.

If you are confident your run will stop a predator, you can leave it open. Predators are the only thing I’d really worry about as long as you are not talking about a human-sized door that can let in a lot of rain and get your coop wet.

X2 ... nothing worse than going out in the morning to find all your flock killed. What part of the country do you live in? Do you have known predators in your area?

I am pretty confident in the security of my run. I still close the door to the coop when the chicks go in for the night. Predators are crafty. I do not think it is worth the risk for me. The more layers between predators and my chicks the better I feel.

I live in PA I don't have any real predators an my run is solid so I don't think anything will get it
