Questions about ducks

Hi everyone, I am interested in getting some ducks and I have a few questions. First off how do you build a small pond for some ducks? Secondly how big does the pond have to be? And Third what type of nest/coop do you need to have? Thanks!

Ducks don't need water to swim in, but they do enjoy it. A kiddie pool or plastic pond liner will work just fine. The coop can be just like a regular chicken coop. Ducks do not need roosts, and they don't usually use nesting boxes. Mine always lay their eggs on the floor of the coop.

Ducks do not need to swim but they need to be able to get the whole beak with nostrils into the water.

I use rubbery feed dishes sold for horses at the feed store in the winter and kiddie pools in summer. You will have fun watching them swim. Little clowns!

We bought a kit from the local Home Depot, roughly 110 gallons. We also built a 50 gallon bio-filter that tries to keep the pond as clean as possible, algae & feathers remain a problem.



We also have 5 very large cat litter bins that we fill with fresh water daily so two or three of the ducks can climb in and take baths together.

We also have three separate waterers, which they cannot swim in so there is always fresh drinking water. While the ducks do drink out of the bins and ponds, it's important that clean water be available.
