High stepping 5 wk chick. Looked online and soaked her feet in warm water and used olive oil on her legs and feet. Reasons for this? Only thing I have done differently is because it was super warm last night, I placed them (all three of them) in their hen house, which is super small because this is a typical Atwood coop. They have roosts about 3 inches above the ground in that area. I let them out this morning and she was doing this high stepping thing. Anything else to do?

I recommend you put the chick on Vitamin B vitamins. High stepping and odd toe walking can be a sign of Vitamin B deficiency.

I've used the "Chick Saver" vitamins and electrolytes.

Sometimes they hatch with a deficiency. Other times it can be caused by overuse of medicated feed (amprolium depletes vitamin B killing the coccidia but also can deprive the chick).

If Vitamin B deficiency, you will see improvement in about 2 days.

I actually gave a double dose to start, then regular for a week, but saw marked improvement after 2 days.
