Wing It Ranch

To answer both questions.... yes, I am going to make him a wether. Yes, I could definitely eat him. No, I will not. He'll be a pet but will also be helping the girls clear the land.

There's actually another good use for wethers. Companions to your breeding buck! The buck has to be separate from the does majority of the year and he can't be alone so you house him with a wether or two. I can't use this little boy as a buck because he's related to both my does.

I need upload a video of his adorable antics but here's a pic of him attempting to jump on Daisy's back while she tries to eat.

So Titus is going to be trouble. I caught him attempting to hump his mother at only 2 days old. Sticking his little tongue out and making the motions. Excuse me, young man?!

I got him disbudded last night. Broke my heart but it needed to be done for his safety and mine.

I won't band him until 10-12 weeks but just found out he can successfully mate at only 6 weeks old! There's something called an apron I need to get for him. It's basically a chastity belt. 🤣

Update from WIR. Spent all week clearing land on the new 10 acres. It was pretty neglected. Looking great now. Check out these amazing pig pens that were buried. I have no clue what to do with them. I don't really want pigs..

This area was completely covered in brush and vines. Didn't even know there was a fence! It's 4 strands of barbed wire.

Little Titus is a little ball of energy! Daisy, Maggie, and Titus are doing great together.

I've been bringing Beau in for supervised visits and he's been such a good boy.

And... you know how I let my broody pullet hatch BCM? Well.. one of her chicks is now broody! She's about to be locked up in jail if she doesn't stop. Right now I've been braving her growling and pulling her off the nest.

Everything looks like it could become a poultry pen to me 🤣
A bunch of hardware cloth and wala breeding pen
Not a bad idea, however... I actually found another chicken coop/pen that would take less of a setup. So I may make that another coop. I've been considering breeding American Bresse and selling hatching eggs. That's a project for the distant future, though!

So I decided not to separate Daisy and Titus but instead will be "milk sharing." Milk production will be limited but I don't need a lot and this will work better with my busy schedule. I'm going to make cheese eventually! Maybe butter too.

My first milking ever! 😂

Gosh I need dark green eggs!
The only colour I have missing, at least the colours chickens produce.
