Questions about Layer Breeds....

I don't think I have ever heard of a RIR laying more than 1 egg a day... I know it's not unusual for Pekin Ducks to lay more than 1 egg a day btu never heard of chickens doing that. maybe someone else has?

I think the world record is close to 335 eggs in a 12 month period so I don't see it being possible that any group of RIR's would average more than 365. My GC's and Red sex link all produce wonderfully. My nine chickens produce about 7.5 eggs per day. That's an average of 305/yr/bird. Two of them are a BR and a WR while the rest are egg laying specialists.

My sister was excited when we found her at the feed store. they normally dont get any of the different breeds in, just the more well known layer breeds. I think she just didn't mess with her enough and thats why she was flighty.. i babied the leghorns

I kinda wish they had some of those in right now.

I might call today and see when/if they're going to get in any RSL's, B R's or WLH's.... i am having a terrible time deciding, lol.

A study done by Skinner in 1978 on the theoretical genetic potential of RIR and BPR showed 240 and 220 eggs/hen/year, respectively.

Think of it as your hens will produce an egg every day you work (if on a typical M-F work week with about 2 weeks vacation every year).
