questions about mixed flocks and building a duck run

Is it possible my one swedish is just ultra aggressive? He literally rips down off of my smaller ducklings. Tries to go after them even when separated.

Yes..i have one buff duck that is like that. All the sudden this year he has gotten really mean. he took an extreme dislike to one of the pekin ducks and ended up drowning him despite all my efforts. he chases most of the other ducks out of the yard for no apparent reason and i've seen him go after the other ducks from clear across the lake. Its so bad I've considered culling ..and I just can't bring myself to do it. All my other ducks get along even with the little squabbles amonth the flocks..but this one particular duck is a booger. I have new ducks I'm almost ready to introduce and I'm really considering re-homing him because i think he'll just chase them and eventually they won't be allowed in the yard.

mind you..he isn't mean to people..friendly as ever..eats from my hand..comes right up to the porch..but he's just decided it's only his yard..he's a tyrant really..

About mixed flocks: to paraphrase Opa over on the Michigan Thread, birds of a feather will flock together. Meaning, white ducks will tend to group up with other white ducks of similar size. Take caution during flock introductions and proceed slowly, particularly where Drakes are concerned.

Oh great. That's not exactly the story I wanted to hear. Although my swedish is still technically a chick, and is only like that towards some of my ducks. That's why I'm hoping he'll grow out of it.

also an update for my run. Decided to go with 48inch galvanized wire fencing. I'm not including a roof, because it'll be day time only and ill only let the adults out. I went with an "L" shape with one wing being 19x10ft and the other being 17x51ft. I think that'll be sufficient space for 11 ducks... 4 mallards(clipped wings), 1 magpie, 1 khaki, 2 swedish, and 3 pekins.

well good to know but will this change at least in perception? Obviously once the Pekins are fully feathered they will be much larger than the Mallards......But the age difference is so apparent right now. I feel bad for my Pekins because they are so loving !
I too! But we just have to be patient and be there for the duck when it's getting too stressed about all the pecking.
