Our newest hen, Zoey has started laying on one egg yesterday and I had a couple questions.
I know budgies lay an egg every other day, is it the same with chickens?
When would you recommend candling the egg(s)?
We built a brooding coop last year to keep our first round of babies in before they went to live with the chickens in the big coop, should I move her there so she wont be disturbed by the other hens or the rooster?
If I do move her should I keep the rooster with her so the eggs will be fertilized? I don't know how long sperm can survive in a chicken but I saw them do the deed as recently as 2 or 3 days ago.
And last but not least, should she be on a special diet while she's laying the eggs? How bout when she's sitting on them? She's on an organic layer pellet right now + free ranging.
Thanks so much in advanced!
