Apparently red is better to prevent pecking between chicks. Mine is a 125 watt brooder bulb which was about 8 dollars. Normal incandescent or halogen bulbs work too. Do not use cfl as there is little heat produced.

Red is supposed 2 be better, I used a regular 125 watt bulb b/c I couldnt find a red 125 watt one... It worked fine, but I do hear that red is best....
