Questions about selling eggs for Balut.....

I'm seriously disgusted at the thought of selling my fertilized duck eggs for Balut, but if I can get a regular buyer out of the deal so be it.

My question is, is it okay to wash the eggs before selling them or does that interfere with their development?? And should I put them in the fridge or just leave them sitting out? This guy said he will take all of my extra eggs every week so they won't sit longer than 7 days.

And if we get a rooster he also wants our fertilized chicken eggs for Balut. We may have to get a bigger barn and a whole lot more ducks and chickens because this guy wants a lot of eggs!! I wonder if he works for an oriental restaurant or something, my hubby talked to him and said it sounded like he had an Asian accent. I can't imagine he wants so many eggs all for himself.

You should treat them like hatching eggs. No washing, keep them tip down at room temp, etc.

I wouldn't go expanding your operation however, until you are assured the buyer is legit and consistent.

We definitely won't be expanding anything for awhile, but if this guy is legit we will find out and I would LOVE an excuse to add to our flock!

Chickens and ducks are the only animals we can have that my husband won't put a limit on. LOL

So I shouldn't clean them at all? Can I wipe the dirty spots with a wet paper towel or anything? If not I've got to do something in the coop, the ducks refuse to lay in their box lately and prefer to dig a hole in the dirt and bury the eggs.

I agree, even if this buyer is totally legit we won't be changing anything until next year. I just like to daydream about the possibility of getting more ducks and chickens.

I have no objections to what others eat, but given your initial reservations, and the fact that he will sell them as food and possibly name you as the source? I'd worry about state and Federal regulations, too. IF there are any. I don't really know.

I'd think if this guy wanted to raise birds he would, since we live in a pretty rural area he probably can't have them where he lives. And he must have an incubator because he told my husband that he also buys eggs from someone else in the area. Good point about any regulations if he sells them, I'll have to look into that. I don't want to get into any trouble if he doesn't handle them properly and someone gets sick....
