I'm still working on the coop, I hope to have it done this weekend to start putting the chicks out.
I had been planning on modifying an old dog house for it. It's an A frame, and housed a husky easily. I'm now wondering if it's going to be big enough for 4 chickens(2 gold brabanters and 2 salmon faverolles). One side I planned on squaring off for a roost. The back I planned on putting to nest boxes. Thoughts?
The area they will have for a run for now is 3x20. After the plants in the garden are big enough to withstand the assault a little better they will have some time in it every day, its 20x30. the entire garden and run area will be covered with netting.

Diatomaceous earth...I use it in my compost and in my garden. Will it be ok for the chickens? I had read somewhere(here maybe? but not sure) that it can be used in the coop to help cut odors, yay, nay?

Ducks...house for them, what do I need size wise for a Khaki Campbell and a pekin? Their yard is 15x20, half dirt half cement where their pool will be. I have a medium size dogloo dog house the kids keep suggesting(for size idea, got for a scottish terrier/boxer mix(yes she's very ugly) but fits the border collie/whippet mix.

To give you more of an idea of the area I'm working with, the link is the satellite view. The blue is the pool, its 20 ft across, its been moved to the other side of the yard, straight to the left. Where it's sitting is the garden. The white rectangle is a big shed, open on the front and half the side facing into the yard. the ducks will be to the right in front of the shed, the fence has been moved forward 20 ft. since this picture was taken.
I have plenty of area to work with.
