hello all, currently have 10 eggs in the incubator. we are on day 9 today and just candled them yesterday. most if not all were showing veining and signs of life, and we are getting pretty nervous with how we are going to accommodate them once they hatch. they grow so fast! wondering if anyone can share a picture or image of a brooder box they use for chicks that can be kept in a basement or garage. we are still fairly new to hatching!

Hi. We use a couple of large plastic totes. As you can see, we cut up the lid and replaced part of the plastic with some soft plastic netting, taped in place with some stout duct tape. The size we have will hold ten chicks for about a week, then we split them into two totes. For bedding we use puppy pee pads. We change the pads at night, the chicks are calmer in the dark. We have two heat lamps. One has a red lamp for nights, the other a white lamp for days. We keep the totes in a closet in a spare room. We removed the closet doors. The lamps can be dangerous so we have them zip-tied to hangers so they can't fall. As the chicks get older and need less heat we pull the totes out of the closet so they're not directly under the lamps. At about three weeks they don't need the heat any more and we move them to an outdoor brooder. Good luck and have fun!
