Ok
Here we go...
I have one baby duckling, not sure the kind, I think Cayuga but not positive. So I have been quarantine him for a week or so now. I have introduced him to the rest of the flock but only outside of their pen. I have two drake pekin and to female pekin. My younger pekin who is one year this spring is very interested in the duckling. I feel like the hens are not so nice to the duckling.
Is there a chance I can find my most broody hen and put her in the isolated pen with the duckling for warmth and comfort or will she hurt the baby?
Also I read the great debate on how long fresh eggs collected daily will last outside your fridge.
I was one of the brain washed people who thought they needed to be put in the fridge immediately.
I now realize I was WAY off. So heres my question..
I have at least three dozen hen eggs in the fridge, can I take them out and leave them out after they have been in the fridge for a couple weeks?

Also, I have pekin eggs in the incubator and cant see anything when I candle. Im lost with that part, I hear that I should wait till the 18th day? True?
Also when you wait 10 days to put the other pekin eggs in the bator, do you count from that point on day 11 in the bator or not?
One more question....
For anyone in Pa
where do you get your ducks dressed to eat?

I would not trust the adult duck with the duckling - I have read too many sad stories.

Regarding incubation, have you seen the waterfowl hatching thread on the Stickies list?

I agree with Amgia, do not put a duckling with an adult until the duckling is about the older duck's size. The bigger ducks can seriously harm the smaller one when establishing a pecking order.

Thanks everyone.
I have the duckling in a smaller rabbit hutch, so the rest of the flock can see her and hear her but can not touch her.

Any idea what kind of duckling?

I'm pretty new to ducks myself so I have no idea what kind she is but she sure is cute

She looks like a khaki campbell. Very cute! Separating your duckling from the bigger ducks so they can see eachother but not touch eachother is a great idea. This is how I am introducing my duckling to my older ducks. I built a smaller pen inside the larger one and put the duckling in the smaller one. So far, this has been working great. The larger ducks are gradually becoming less agressive towards him. The duckling is almost as big as them so they will all be living together happily pretty soon :).

The same for my ducks, they are slowly getting used to his little quacks and squeaks and peeps. My youngest female Pekin (1yr) is very interested in the duckling. SHe stays close to the fence and watches him. He still follows me around thank goodness, I feared that after I put him outside he start to run away or be scared.
My duckling loves mealworms

Khaki Cambell was my though too, but the weirdo I got her from says Cayuga ? I looked at the duckling Cayuga they are darker, my ducklings feathers are coming in and they look brownish. THanks
