Questions for Peafowl with poultry

If peafowl didn't SCREAM like they do, they'd be more interesting to have! Mary
My peahen doesn't scream at all. She just honks once in a while.

Hey alll!!!

So sorry for the late response! I am very busy during this time of the year.

Anyway, I want give thanks to casportpony, peacock12345 and Folly's place for responding to my questions! Blessings!

Now, the peafowl that I am getting is the India Blue kind and they will be 8 months when they get here. By July, they will become yearlings.

Casportpony, that is a great idea. I have already contacted someone I know who is an avian vet and I know a poultry club nearby who might also be able to contact for supplies. Also I will buy a scale so I can keep record of the weights of my two birds.

Thank you so much!

Folly's Place, oh thats a good point. I do know that I have had two cases of gape worm in the last 2-3 years. I treated them with a pea-sized amount of horse dewormer. They recovered in 24 hours. Will the gape-worms still be in the soil? I have a lime-like power that goes in the feed that is supposed to stop the cycle for worms and parasites. Will that work?

I am choosing to keep my peafowl separated from the chickens. They have different runs (pens). They will however use an old seperated coop previously used by chickens.

I am planning on cleaning the old coop with three cycles. Soap, bleach, and Steramine to hopefully clean out anything that was left behind.

Also are cecal worms potentially dangerous to the birds? Arn't they the worms that help spread blackhead disease?

Also I just looked up on how to do the fecal test on chickens. Looks interesting XD. Will I have to test every single bird? I have nineteen. XD

Thank you so much!

I have a neat thing that I built for my chickens underneath where they roost. There is a sand box right underneath them that I clean everyday. It catches all the droppings that they drop overnight. So when I am cleaning it I can examine if I see any irregular droppings. I am planning on building one for the peafowl too.
