Questions on closing in a lean-to for a coop

Some of my bantams would be able to fly up there and roost in that.

As of right now, I only have "big boned" girls. lol They don't fly but I am gonna have to do something to prevent critters coming down into the coop from there. These are open all the way across the building to the other side. Unless I can come up with a better idea, it's probable gonna have to be closed off with hardware cloth.

Since your girls won't fly up into there, can you just close off the ends with the hardware cloth?
