First- I called my local co-op and asked about Food Grade DE. He told me he didn't know it came in different grades but, they seasonabley handle DE for dusting plants in the garden, lawns, etc. Is this the same stuff?

Second- I'm in WI where our overnight temps are below freezing now and daytime temps are in the 40's although, soon daytime temps will be at or below freezing. Do I need to use DE for the winter (not having trouble) or will the cold temps keep any bugs at bay?

Third- I have an 8 x8 coop and a run that is roughly 8 x 12, how much DE would I need at a time to dust this area?

I know it's alot of questions but, they sort of go hand in hand.

Thanks in advance!

This is the DE you want...food grade DE. Hope it is some help.

I plan on using it year-round...as a "just-in-case" for mites/lice since our winters are usually mild here.

Actually, Winter IS the only time we get them here. I think it's because the birds are confined during most of the day...I don't know?

Perhaps others here can help you....but, yes I use it year round!

The DE for plants and gardens is not the food grade.

Try asking for Fossil Flour, they may not know it by DE.
