I put the eggs on lockdown night before last. last night the first was hatched. thismorning another hatched. now another is zipping. this seems to be a long drawed out ordeal this time around.I do not want to open the bator but .. will the oldest be ok without food or water? Its already been 24 hrs for him.

The chicks absorb the yolk sac right before they hatch and can go three days with out food and water. They will be fine wait untill they are done. I know it's tuff but thats what the hen does.

Just take him out and put him into your brooder if you're worried. It won't hurt him. But yea they can live for 3 days without food. Im not sure about water though.

I have been hatching for years and I always remove the chicks from the incubator when they become dry, fluffed and active.
