My girls were laying for about 2-2.5 months and then i switched them to layer feed and then all laying stopped!!! Changed them back to starter feed and in about 2-3 weeks there laying once a day. Is this normal and can they stay on starter feed!!

Thanks

Can/did you mix it with the new food slowly over time or just cold turkey?

I feed all my birds chick starter and they lay great!

If you keep them on the starter, make sure they have calcium (oyster/ egg shell) available or you'll have thin shells. From what I understand, that's the critical thing w/ layer mixes.

I noticed the same thing with mine when I switched from grower to layer. The protien level of layer is lower than grower. I now only feed them 20% protien grower and I keep a dish of oyster shells available so they can get calcium. Egg productioin went back up and has stayed there all winter.
