I just adopted a poor battered hen this past weekend... she was a "stray" hen that the humane society took in and then a fellow animal lover adopted her but the roosters were all ganging up on her very badly (her poor head and back feathers are gone!!!) so I've adopted this sweet girl into my backyard flock where she'll be rooster-free! Anyway, the woman told me on the phone she was a Rhode Island Red, but her color is much darker (more like a buckeye's color - rich, dark reddish brown) and she has white legs instead of yellow... any idea what she is or should I just consider her a sweet and adorable mutt? Or just "hatchery" quality of something? Either way, I hope she's happy in her new home!
