I have a huge box of saltines that the girlfriend never ate. I haven't given it to the girls because of the salt. However, free rangers get salt licks, so is the salt ok for them?

if in moderation, how much?

I like to throw them something in the morning when they are let out, whether it be veggie scraps, yogurt, rice, etc

With salty stuff like pretzels I soak them, rinse well, soak, rinse, until I am comfortable with it.

That is just what I do....cannot tell you anything else! They can definitely have a problem with too much salt, but yes there is some salt in chicken feed.

I'm afraid I may turn the cracker into mush if I rinse it, but I'll give it a shot

I like ChickensAreSweet's idea. Only thing I would do differently is I'd lick the salt off myself.

A lot of salt is not good for chickens. I think a few saltines would be OK occasionally, and the saltines will last forever. The chickens won't care if they get stale.

Mmmmmm salttttyyyy

To the OP:
The chickens won't be affected by the salt although they may get thirsty.

I just rinsed some and they became a pile of mushy dough. which for me is disgusting, but they won't care. I sampled some of the mush and it was pretty bland. I'll give it to them tomorrow morning.
