I have 70 eggs that go in lockdown tomorrow. Will candle them during the move off the turner. My question is after they hatch will new chicks drink out of a water nipple, or must they have some sort of waterer that sits on the ground? I bought nipples that I put into pop bottles, and reading about chicks drowning, I was hoping to use these from the get go. Thanks guys and gals.

I find that they are very inquisitive and figure out the nipples very quickly. But I have never chanced it that early. I bet if you put these hanging over a small lid drip tray they would figure it out, but would give them a bit to reach easily for safe measure. These suckers will drown in a drop of water though.

They will find the water. Animals can smell water so they know where to look and these chicks already peck everything. You may need to teach the first few and use your judgement on whether or not they are catching on.
