Howdy all!

Okay so the girls (and young man) came in this Wednesday. Audie and I have been feeding a mix of boiled eggs - yolks only - with some finely ground oatmeal and cornmeal which they munch down eagerly. I’ve explained to them that they shouldn’t stand on it and to line up in an orderly fashion around the little tray but they’re still learning English or are just ignoring me /shrug

So last night I got into the Start & Grow, thinking to start mixing it in. The thing is, some of those little crumbles, though small, still look a little big for their little beaks.

Should we wait a few more days on the S&G or just start adding it now (over time until they’ve switched to it altogether)?

Oh, we’ve yet to introduce grit. Our thinking is to wait a couple weeks (?).

Thanks!
PS: You guys have answered so many questions with existing content. For that we want to give our sincere thanks. It’s kept us from bombarding the forum with thread after thread /lol

Welcome to BYC.

Chick starter feed is designed to be a nutritionally-complete diet from day 1. Free-feed it in a separate dish and they should be able to handle it just fine.

Grit should be offered from the moment you begin offering any food other than chick starter -- because the chick starter components are ground to a fine, digestible powder before being turned into crumble.

I had to start grit from the beginning because I was brooding outdoors and my chicks started eagerly nipping up ants and any other small bug that invaded their space just about as soon as they got out of the box. I was advised to sprinkle it lightly over their food -- just a pinch at a time.
