I put fake eggs in the nest and for the past day my speckled Sussex has been sitting up against them but not quite on top of them does this mean I can put firtle eggs under her
 
Does she growl at you and duck her head when you approach? That's a broody sign.

Or does she hop off and scratch around and sun herself and take a leisurely meal? Does she roost at night? If so, she's not broody.

well she had just layed an egg with the fakes today and before she layed she was sitting with them and she pecked me growled and squawked.
