We have 21 chicks, just turned 4 weeks old Saturday, 4 of them are a week behind because we got those from TSC. They have been inside the house in the brooder, house temp kept at 68-70, & they are next to the window & get sunlight in half the brooder all day. I know they start to not need the heat during the day at 3 weeks, but even at night we would mostly catch them on the other side of the brooder just huddled together so I stood the heat plate up just to have in there & then they just used it as a perch. I took it out today, just wanted to make sure (mostly the 3 weekers) will be fine day & night without the heat at all now, seeing how they didn’t use it much anyways and some roost & the rest cuddle or sleep alone. They all run around all day long & have a grand ole time, constantly talking and scratching around. 😂 TIA

Side note, are your chickens greedy little bastards? I was literally trying to scrape poop off their roosts and they were attacking the thing I was using as if I had a treat!! 😂

If there fully feathered and indoors, no heat is needed. Having a roost in the brooder will get them use to it. Especially when you move them in the coop.
The 4 week olds are fully feathered with their heads being last, still fuzzy but crazy looking. Lol. The 3 week olds are Cochins, so they have fuzzy feet & still mostly soft but still a bit of feathers.
