Quick Question.

I have one duck egg that went over 48 hours from external pip and made no progress at all. All the other went from external pip to zip in 12 to 24 hours. This one is really weak and not moving much after 5 hours. My gut says it worked a lot harder. Any thoughts? And yes, after 48 hours I did stepped in. I broke away the shell. No blood in membrane and not shrink wrapped either. I proceeded to just cap it and pull back the membrane a bit. It broke free on its own. No unabsorbed yoke sack except a tiny yellow spot that has already receded. The other reason not just over 48 hours but 2 weeks ago the lid to the incubator slipped and put a dent and several cracks in the shell. I applied unscented candle wax to the damage and actually, I'm surprised it even made it this far. This one is pretty special to me. Any reassurance and wisdom would be great. Thank you!

I've assisted chicks that meant more to me and I personally don't have a problem with that. But I always watch that chick for what I call failure to thrive. If I see signs that there's a problem, I will cull and try again. I set eggs from my favorite hens in April, and I had to assist on a few, but the chicks are doing great and are healthy.

Thank you Buckeye Amy! I did exactly what you said. I followed my gut again! Right before I went to bed I opened the incubator. There are no more eggs left. Talked to him/her and wiped off the mineral oil of the eye that had it closed. He/she perked up and is doing great now. Will move the the brooder tomorrow with its siblings. Just needed someone to say I'm here and your not alone.
