Our one single egg has made an external pip earlier this evening (about 5 hours ago) and has not made any more progress. I can hear him peeping away LOUDLY and see the egg moving like crazy. I can see a bit of him through the hole he made.
Reading on other pages about assisting says to watch for the edges of the membrane turning tanish..his definitely are..its only been 5 hours, how long do I leave him?

if you help it might hurt him but after 5 hours id probably help him some myself if you dont he might die anyway yep help him and be very gentle not to make him bleed out

The tannish membrane is what had me freaking out. Don't touch it! It could just be some blood that dried. I intervened and killed my chick. I just did my first hatch with two eggs and I know exactly what your thinking(my only chick hatched tonight).
The one egg that hatched started doing the same thing but I left it alone and did not open the incubator, She pipped yesterday afternoon and just hatched at 10:15 tonight. You will see her moving a lot then almost nothing for a long time. She is fine! Please give it at least 24 hours before you try anything. Ours hatched at about 30-36 hours after external pip.
As long as your humidity is good you should be fine.
