Quiet Cockerel

What breed of chickens make the best pets? I've got a couple of Indian runner ducks and would like to introduce chickens. I've kept chickens before, but some of them were really quite nasty tempered so don't want to make a mistake and end up with antisocial hens.

Welcome and I would not get a rooster expecting a quiet bird, unless if you have it de-crowed, but some roos can be quieter than others while some are extra vocal.

Welcome to BYC! I have 2 Serama cockerels, which are tiny bantam chickens, they're still pretty loud but of course not as loud as a large fowl would be lol. So my answer would be "probably not".

Yeah, my little serama man can't reach the same level of volume as some of the big boys, but he makes up for it in tenacity. He's been telling the world how awesome he is since he was not quite 6 weeks old.

Serama's are BIG chickens in a SMALL body. If you have more than one Rooster, usually the secondary one won't crow.
