Hey, I would have assumed, yes, assumed that turkey poults would be a lot like chicks. Wrong, I cannot imagine what to do to quiet down these buggers.
Temp- 95 directly under heat lamp
Grow gel- 1/2 cup is gone (8am-8pm)
Turkey starter crumbles. Water is going very well.
Radio on now to sooth... its only one at a time, as soon as they see me or hear me they quiet down.

Any ideas besides me sleeping in the box with the poults!?!

How much sleep did you get last night?

They are just settling in or the chirping means they aren't happy. Are they directly under the heat lamp or on the outer edges? they might be to hot or to cold.

The only other thing might be a bedtime turkey story...

"Once apon a time there were 3 little turkeys, Moe, Larry and Curly Joe
Blaa Blaa Blaa, etc etc
and they all lived happy ever after"

I know I know SHUT UP STEVE.

Well, it would take a bomb to wake me at night. I don't know how the rest of the household faired! lol.
Directly under the lamp its a about 98 and some are sprawled out basking in the heat, others are laying along that dark area a heat lamp makes.
Its like one is peep peep, peep peep. Then when I look in its a different poult.
Like now with me being up and around, its a 3 and occasional 4 chip call but its more of a calling for mom sound, only from 1 of them at a time.
Who the heck knows.
Here is the gang yesterday, day 1 Beltsville (Midget whites) & BB

Yes, I had to place News Paper down, they were eating the shavings! I gave that green stuff and what was supposed to be for 100 chicks they ate in the evening! The marbles seem to be great in the feeder too. I'd like to see them be able to get on shavings soon, any ideas is its good for them or not...?

My turley poult is peeping in his sleep.. he has warmth , a soft bed he sleeps in.. water food..
allthough its a soft peep peep.. kinda
I wonder why he does it.

I am sure he is lonely .. because now i got him so spoiled that when he peeps ALOT i pick him up and he stops it..lol

I have used a country station and they enjoyed it the first 2 days...today quiet and they have chatted and done what baby turkeys do, pick at each other (not sure thats correct), eat and PooP! Drink, eat and PooP! wow. But that is good, everyone is lively, happy and all systems are up and running!
Man alive, I feed Turkey/Game medicated starter crumbles and I wonder if my little guys are doing well enough. The places we have do not have it in mash.
Should I have medicated mash for my "Beltsville" ?

I quote Beltsville because I always thought the black beard small variety of Turkey was a Beltsville, not the Midget Whites. Showing you have got to call them "correctly"...oye. I get confused quickly- LOL

The Beltsville and the Midget are different varieties, hatcheries don't carry BSW, they only carry the midget. One does offer BSW hatching eggs but will not say where they come from. The "family tree" of the BSW is pretty short since 2 people got eggs from the USDA station at Ames Iowa and they spread from them.

I feel your pain!!!! My 2 little guys are practically SCREAMING! When I go downstairs to check on them, I usually pick them up and play with them for a little while. When I go back upstairs, they are soooo loud! If I go BACK downstairs, they settle down when they see me.

Geeze, I did not have this much seperation anxiety when my 2 children!
