Quiet Mallard-Types?

That's something to consider. We have a runner male, who is the most awesome boy ever. He is the first to run to the door to greet me when I come outside and he talks to me the entire time we are walking to the snack chair.

My Runners aren’t very loud at all. Quietly talking while they forage excitedly I’m in love.

Yes, our drake is similar, always at the gate in the morning when i let the ducks loose, always friendly rasping, but also somewhat dumb (that's why he earned the name »Donald«) in four of five cases he needs help to get out of the pool, he just can't remember where that stepping stone is...

Not by me! But he was always the first at the feeder and drank way too much...

I don't have a lot to compare. I would say my Swedish are mostly quiet. As in they are quiet most of the time but they can raise a ruckus if they want to. Much like a watch dog, they will go off if there's a strange dog in the yard, they also raise a fuss when you pull in the driveway. I can hear them in the house, but if I hear them, it means something is going on in the yard and I'd better check on things. If all is right in the world they are quiet. So yeah, they are quiet unless there's a darn good reason for them to be loud.

Same with our Sunshine. She's quiet, but when we come out, it's worth talking about. If the cats are watching them from the glass doors in the back, she has to talk about it. Thankfully, she still isn't too loud, but having more than one becomes a stereo!

Our Runner is the only one who does not struggle at all when held. He (she) is the easiest to catch when taking them out of the temp fence area to go back in the run. We found someone who is willing to take our drakes out of this brood, but Bandit is staying no matter the gender. We are still trying to figure out who is a hen who is a drake but they are only 6 weeks old.
